LEARNING SUPPORT

The Learning Support Centre is housed in the centre of the school and is staffed by the Learning Support Coordinator (LSC) and Education Assistants (EAs). The environment is warm, welcoming and safe and is often sought out by students before school and during breaks.

The Learning Support team provides social, emotional and academic support to students who may be experiencing difficulties. They are trained to assist students who have disabilities or specific learning difficulties.

The Learning Support team guides teaching staff in implementing Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students who require teaching and learning adjustments. At times the reporting of student progress needs adjustments too and the LSC oversees this process.

The eight categories of disability are: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Global Developmental Delay, Intellectual Disability, Physical Disability, Severe Medical Health Condition, Severe Mental Disorder and Vision Impairment. These conditions may attract funding for additional support for the students and it is the responsibility of the LSC to liaise with parents, medical professionals and staff to access this support, so that the student is in the best position to achieve his/her true potential. The team is also able to provide students and staff with different ways to manage Specific Learning Difficulties such as Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorders, Dysgraphia, etc.

Parents/carers who have any concerns or queries or would like to know more about learning support at Yanchep Secondary College are welcome to contact the school.
